Everything you know about werewolves . . .
. . . is only the beginning.
Aaron Darveau’s one-night stand leaves him with more than love scratches on his back. He soon finds out he is ordained to ascend to Lupus Rex, Wolf King. Aaron thinks he wants to be the big, bad wolf until he discovers the sacrifices he must make to keep the peace with Lucerna Veritatis, an ancient order of warrior priests bent on destroying the Race.
Gritty and suspenseful, Howlers: Lupus Rex takes the reader on an adventurous ride that interweaves with history throughout the 20th Century.
“A dense, believable world where I can imagine werewolves holding seats in Congress.”
Bret McCormick, Headhunters from Outer Space

4 of 5 stars Hierarchy
By Richard Lang on September 6, 2015
You’re going to find everything you wanted to know about werewolves as you follow Aaron Darveau through the story. Aaron meets Karen, the girl of his dreams, but doesn’t know those little love scratches on his back have changed his life forever. Chosen by Karen, the next female leader of the Pack, as her mate and the male leader, Aaron finds himself at a crossroads. Should he accept the offer to be Karen’s husband and King or not? When he discovers a pact between the Pack and the Fectors, the werewolf hunters, that sends innocents to their death, he decides to rebel. [Tom] does a masterful job of entwining the characters to create a plot that will have you question all the myths surrounding the beasts.

i enjoyed this book. It was different from other ‘Werewolf’ stories I’ve read in the past. [Tom] organizes his story very well. His version of werewolf history is well thought out and works into the book seamlessly. I’d buy it again.

5 of 5 stars Action! What more can a guy ask for?

Great action flick in book form! I don’t read very often, because too many authors droll on about stuff that puts me to sleep. This book kept me turning pages. Be forewarned, the ending begs for a sequel.

A different take on the werewolf world and I love the comfortable feel of the characters. Don’t want to do spoilers but I will say it doesn’t follow what I would expect!
5 of 5 stars Waiting for the Sequel!
December 6, 2015
Great read. Werewolves have not always been something I would read about . So glad I read the Book “Howlers:Lupus Rex” . It was well written and kept my attention so that I read constantly to reach the end. Can’t wait for a sequel.
4 of 5 stars Action, Suspense, Political Intrigue! More than originally expected from a book revolving around werewolves.
By Shinobars on December 7, 2015
This book serves as an intriguing entry into the library of werewolf fiction. By giving werewolves an entire caste system and cultural hierarchy, [Tom] successfully weaves a tale that surpasses the expectation of simple bestial ravagers. Different political factions, each fighting for their own goals, adds strong levels of depth to this story. Many characters get fleshed out thoroughly, allowing the reader to care about their fate.
My only complaint is that the book moves too quickly for my tastes, and some characters aren’t around as long as I’d prefer. I feel that the universe built here allows for further expansion, and perhaps more entries in this series will assuage my desire for even more detail.

5 out of 5 stars … regular pleasure reading genre so I was ready to hate it.
September 17, 2016
This isn’t my regular pleasure reading genre so I was ready to hate it…but I didn’t! I really loved the main character right from the very first page and the author had amazing character description. I also thought I would get lost in the “technical” aspects of the werewolf world since this isn’t overly familiar to me but it is really well put together; [Tom] makes it extremely approachable and does a great job making sure the reader follows along even down to the smallest details.
If you like the werewolf thing, read this book. [Tom] brings a whole new twist to it! And if you don’t like werewolves, READ THIS BOOK. It’s not your regular, run of the mill, tired werewolf thing. There is a lot of thought put into the story and the characters. Great read, glad I picked it up.

Never a dull moment. I couldn’t put this one down and I am still thinking about the characters weeks after reading the book. Definitely worth the read.
5 of 5 stars Loved it! Well written and full of intrigue, action and interesting characters. Can’t wait for the sequel!
By Christy J. on September 19, 2016
This book drew me in from the first few pages! It’s not your typical werewolf story, but written with lots of twists and turns that you don’t expect. The characters are interesting, scary, humorous, and pull you into caring about them even if they are usually considered unlovable. The author does a great job of unfolding the story on many levels, giving you the history and the why behind the characters stories, and builds the plot twists with great skill, all while managing to keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more!
4 of 5 stars Just When You Thought You Knew Everything about Werewolves
By Mike Parish on September 19, 2016
This story provides a refreshing departure from the commonly accepted lore of werewolves. [Tom] kept me on the edge of my seat, intertwining stories and characters from different time periods and then bringing them all together. The characters in the book were well developed and complex and at one point I found my loyalties divided. I pride myself on my ability to guess endings but Tom threw me for a loop with some different twists along the way. All in all, Howlers is a great book and I would recommend reading it.
4 of 5 stars I loved the world building and the politics
By Chelshorsegirl on October 28, 2016
I loved the world building and the politics. It was very different from what I’m used to, but very interesting. I enjoyed seeing the elaborate history for the species, how the power change occurred and why it did. It was also interesting the see the history behind the Lucerna Veritatis and the history of interactions of the groups. I really like the world that is created here.
I also appreciated how this wasn’t just another typical romance subplot as well. The twists were quite interesting.
I did have a hard time connecting to the characters overall though. Some of it was the multi POV, which I tend to not like as much as a singular POV. There were a lot of characters being introduced and a lot of stories and it made it hard for me, especially toward the beginning to become attached to any one character. I liked Aaron, but he was a little bit too perfect. Towards the end I started to get a better feel for some of the side characters and I was definitely growing fonder of them.
The ending was very intense with the battle scenes and I flew through the last 60 pages or so. I liked the ending a lot and enjoyed how everything wrapped up. I’ll definitely continue to read more of this world.
5 of 5 stars Howling good time!
By Robin C Curtis on January 29, 2017
I have now read HOWLERS twice, and I think it got better during the second read. The book does a wonderful job of explaining the werewolf social hierarchy. I also liked the way [Tom] created and used Latin terms to help describe the political landscape of being lupus. This is a must read for those that enjoy this genre. Great book!
Need the next in the series!

4 of 5 stars That guy next to you could be a werewolf!
By Bret McCormick on February 23, 2017
[Tom] creates a dense, believable world in which werewolves have been wrestling with human power structures since time immemorial. They’re not the renegade lone-wolves the movies have depicted. Hell, they may even be lobbying Congress for lupus friendly legislation! Fun and intriguing read!
5 of 5 stars I’m not much on werewolves but from page one it sold me on Tom’s writing.

So good, l love this book! Good from page one, wow! I have to really love someone’s style to stay with a book; I couldn’t put it down! I’m not much on werewolves but it sold me on [Tom]’s writing. Awesome writer; I would recommend it to everyone. Can’t wait for his next one!!!

June 9, 2017
As an avid reader of a great deal of literature and someone who gobbles up hours reading for sport, I bought this book only because I happened to attend a book signing at a local bookstore. Little did I guess what lay in store for me in this fictional tale: well crafted characters and a smartly written story with enough substance to make for fun times! I found the Latin headings of chapters of special delight. Please, sir, do continue writing!

4 of 5 stars Not your usual werewolf tale.
December 6, 2017
I’ll never look at my neighbors the same again. Tom has created a whole new species in Lupus sapiens – human, but more so, and it’s impossible to tell unless you witness the change. The story is thrilling and intricate and fascinating. I would definitely recommend it – especially if you like the werewolf genre, but are looking for more than the usual roar and gore.
